Animal evolutionary adaptation and conservation of endangered species Group

Group Leader
Jianping Su Ph.D is a local animal ecologist in the Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau and surrounding area. He was born in 1964 in Jianyang, Sichuan Province, and got his bachelor’s degree in Lanzhou University in 1983 and doctor’s degree in Northwest Institute of Plateau Biology in 2001. From 1985, he works in the institute on plateau animals, covering the areas of energy ecology, conservation biology, molecular ecology, evolutionary adaptation of functional genes, etc. He is an editorial board member of Acta Theriologica Sinica. So far he has taken charge in many research grants including General Programs of the National Natural Science Foundation of China, Hope of the West China’ of CAS, etc. and published over 80 research articles. Respectively 11nine and seven 7 students have got their bachelor’s and doctor’s degrees from his group.

Research Interests:
The research interests of Su and his group are mainly on the ecology of Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau endemic vertebrates. We aim to elucidate the evolutionary adaptation mechanisms of these animals to severe environments on the plateau, and to show the effects of environmental changes on population characteristics (dynamics, etc.) of endangered species in this region. Our studies will provide theoretical and practical bases for exploitation, utilization, organization and conservation of animal resources in the plateau and surrounding areas.
