A new variety of spring wheat named “Plateau 412” was developed by Pro. Chen Zhiguo’s group in the Northwest Institute of Plateau Biology, CAS. The group did the drought regional trial of northwest spring wheat in 2007 and 2008. The results showed: the average yields were 184.6 kg per mu and 271.5 kg per mu which were increased by 14.0% and 6.23% compared with “Ding Xi 35”. As the result of the production trial in 2008, the average yield was 222.5 kg per mu, which was increased by 10.1% compared with “Ding Xi 35”.

It was approved by the National Crop Variety Approval Committee (NCVAC) in the end of the year 2009. The NCVAC evaluated as follows: “Plateau 412” meets the standard of the National Crop Variety Approval. “Plateau 412” adapts to be cultured in the spring wheat drought region such as Huzhu, Datong, Huangzhong county of Qinghai Province, and Dingxi, Tongwei, Huining, Yuzhong, Yongjing county of Gansu Province and Xihaigu Region in Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region.
